Does Quantum Computing live up to its hype? How close are we to harnessing our body heat for power? Marvel fans, this one’s for you – join us on the exploration of the most futuristic technologies over a cold pint of beer. Don’t miss out! It’s the best combo in the entire multiverse!

The Quantum Hype: Separating Facts from Fiction

Elena Redchenko (Postdoctoral Researcher in Quantum Computing)
Recent developments in the area of quantum computing led to a lot of excitement around quantum technologies. However, oftentimes such a Quantmania is based on pure hype. In this talk, we will discuss the current state of quantum computing and the challenges it faces. We will explore the realistic impact quantum computing may have on society and also debunk some of the overhyped claims about quantum technologies. By the end of the talk, you will have a better understanding of what quantum computing can and cannot do, and how it might affect their lives in the future.

Bring on the heat!

Christine Fiedler (PhD student in Nanomaterials)
What do space travel and your wine fridge have in common? Thermoelectrics! Imagine a world where your body heat powers your mobile devices, where the heat from your car's engine is harnessed to charge its batteries. This is the power of thermoelectrics. It's a technology that promises to unlock new frontiers in energy generation, transportation, and even fashion! By harnessing the physical and chemical potential of nanoparticles within thermoelectric materials, we can create a world where heat is no longer a waste product but a valuable resource, leading to a more sustainable future
