Why is talking about sex so difficult—even in close relationships? And how do our beliefs shape the way we respond to violence in relationships? This evening explores how communication, attitudes, and social norms influence intimacy, support, and societal responses.
Let’s talk about sex… or maybe not?
Meike Sorg, MSc
(Doktorandin, Fachbereich Sozialpsychologie, Institut für Psychologie, Uni Innsbruck)
We’re surrounded by sex, and for many people it’s an important part of life and relationships. Yet talking about it can feel surprisingly difficult—even with one’s partner. Why is that? This talk takes a look at the psychology behind awkward conversations—and why they might not be as bad as we think.
Intimate partner violence against women is also your business
Sofia Amaoui, PhD
(Postdoctoral researcher, Fachbereich Affektive Neurowissenschaft, Institut für Psychologie, Universität Innsbruck )
Why do attitudes towards intimate partner violence matter so much? The way we think about abuse is never neutral. Beliefs that tolerate, excuse, or justify violence can sustain it, shape how others respond, and create barriers to support for survivors. This talk explores the power of these attitudes, while also looking at the emotional, psychological, and social consequences experienced by women survivors.
