From Placenta to Electronic Skin: Exploring the Wonders of MedTech

Vergangene Veranstaltung - 2023
24 Mai Doors open: 6:30 PM. Event: 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Allee 11, Max-Mell-Allee 11,
8010 Graz
During this evening, technology and medicine may look as the two sides of one coin. Pablo will tell us all about placenta, in a journey made to understand what we can learn and how we may take advantage of it. Anna Maria will explain how she managed to recreate a skin using electronic sensors able to perceive external signals. With modern technology, we can overcome the boundaries of 'Our body' and recreate complex systems never recreated before - all in hope of aiding patients down the line.

The organ of Life - What can a placenta tell us?

Pablo Zardoya-Laguardia ( Business developer at the Human Technology Styria in Graz)
What can the placenta tell us? It was used by both ancient and today's society, but what is it really made of? Pablo will talk about its current uses in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industry, what happens during pregnancy, some curiosities (is placenta sterile?) and many more interesting things!

Electronic Skin: Multi-Stimuli Responsiveness at High Resolution

Anna Maria Coclite ( Associate Professor at Institute of Solid State Physics)
The human skin is the interface between the environment and us. It contains receptors that capture information from what surrounds us and transmits this info to the brain. Electronic skins aim at recreating such circle of information. Therefore, they contain sensors that record the response from the environment and transform it in a measurable signal. In this talk, I will show a type of electronic skin, developed in my research group, which is sensitive to force, temperature and humidity and could monitor human breathing, pulse and temperature.
