Join us for an eye-opening evening on female health. We’ll uncover lipedema, a condition often mistaken for obesity, and learn how to differentiate the two. Then, we’ll explore the link between menopause and heart health, showing how hormonal shifts can increase cardiovascular risk. Discover crucial insights from research involving nearly 20,000 women. Don’t miss these must-know facts for every woman’s health toolbox!
A womens’ disease: lipedema
Ao. Univ. Prof. Dr. Erich Brenner, MME (Bern)
(Medical University of Innsbruck)
This talk will address lipedema, a condition which affects almost exclusively women. Women with lipedema are often told that they are simply fat. On the other hand, simply obese women sometimes claim to suffer from lipedema. The differences between lipedema and obesity will be clarified.

Menopause & Your Heart: What is the Connection?
Clara Meijs
(Medical University of Innsbruck)
Two women, same age, diet, and exercise—but one started menopause at age 45, the other at 55. Could that 10-year difference really impact heart health? Our research suggests it might!
Menopause triggers hormonal and vascular changes that could increase the risk of heart disease over time. I’ll break down what happens in the body, why it matters for blood vessels, and what this means for long-term health. Plus, I’ll share insights from my study of nearly 20,000 women on how menopause timing may influence early signs of cardiovascular risk.
